Crete is the largest island of Greece and one of the largest islands in the Mediterranean. It is also the southernmost part of Europe. Crete located between three continents: Europe, Asia and Africa. To the north is washed by the Cretan Sea, to the south from the Libyan Sea, to the west from the southern Ionian Sea and the Mediterranean and to the east from the Carpathian Sea. Crete has an area of 8,338 square kilometers and a population of 536,980 inhabitants. Divided into four prefectures: Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion with its capital Heraklion and Lasithi.
