The seaside resort of Georgioupoli in Crete
Georgioupoli is a small fishing village in the region of Apokoronas in northwestern Crete. It is located 40 km east of Chania, 25 km west of Rethymno and 100 km west of Heraklion. An ideal location to make your vacation a unique and unforgettable experience!

With a population of around 500 people this little seaside village is about 38km southeast of Chania. It is thought that Georgioupoli was one of the ports of the ancient city of Lappa, the port of Amfimalla, although there are no archaeological finds that supports this theory.
The village takes its name from Prince George, a former Governor of the island. Although a small village it is extremely popular with tourists and has a great number of visitors during the summer months owing to its superb beaches.
Close by is the village of Kourna and its unique lake, Lake Kourna, the only lake in Crete. On the southern shores of the lake are the distinctive Kourna Caves which were discovered as recently as 1961.
The Almyros river, together with two smaller rivers, form a unique landscape around the coastline.
The village is surrounded by hills full of herbs, wild flowers and olive groves with an authentic Cretan character and culture.
The white church of Agios Nikolaos built on rocks in the sea is a reference point. Fairs, festivals and events in the Apokoronas area, in Chania and Rethymnon all year round. Opportunities to try local products and Cretan cuisine.
