Bali Crete
Bali, the tranquil seaside village of 165 souls is around 31km
north east of Rethymno and is in one of the most beautiful areas
of the prefecture. According to historians, Bali was the site of
the ancient town of Astali, which was the port of ancient Axos.
The village is clustered around the centre of the Galinios Bay
and attracts many tourists during the summer season. The
greatest activity is concentrated at the fishing harbour where
there are charming traditional fish tavernas, cafes and
restaurants.
A sight to see, apart from the enchanting village itself, is the
16th century Monastery of St. John the Baptist, which is close
by.
