Margarites Crete
Margarites is a traditional village of around 350 inhabitants which is
situated about 31km southeast of Rethymno.
Legend has it that the name of the village was bestowed on it by
Queen Margharita.
The main occupation of the local people is animal husbandry,
agriculture and pottery and the visitor can purchase examples of
these, along with other items of traditional handcrafts at craft
shops in the village.
